May Favorites: Music, Concerts, Shows, and Yes, Buc-ee's (Believe It or Not!)

Dear Groupies,

Welcome to our May Favorites! This month, we're excited to share a mix of our top picks and experiences, from music and concerts to binge-worthy shows and unforgettable adventures. We'll dive into our favorite tunes and the unique concert outfits we curated, perfect for making a statement at any show. We also couldn't get enough of the hit series "Bridgerton," which kept us glued to our screens. Plus, we had our first-ever trip to Buc-ee's, and it was an adventure worth talking about! Join us as we explore the highlights that made this month truly special.

Roma’s Picks

Fontaines D.C. Brooklyn Show

One of my favorite things about concerts is creating a unique outfit for each show. I might wait until the night before (because that's how I roll!), but I always manage to put together something special. This time, I pulled out my low-rise, dead-stock No Boundaries plaid pants, and paired them with a classic black top and a pair of moto boots to match. I added some personal touches with my jewelry. If we only knew how unforgettable this night was.

Zach Bryan's New Song Release

Zach Bryan drops a new song on May 24th, and my tear ducts are already on high alert. Those "Eulogy" snippets on TikTok have wrecked me for days. A whole song? I'm not sure I can handle it. His raw, emotional lyrics and soulful voice always hit me right in the feels. Every release from Zach Bryan is an emotional rollercoaster, and "Eulogy" promises to be no different. I’m gearing up for a powerful, heart-wrenching experience that will probably leave me in tears. It's amazing how his music can touch such deep emotions and create a connection that feels so personal.

Florida Fling and a Rockin' Return

Seven months in Florida was a whirlwind! Swept away by the Disney magic, Mishel and I somehow ended up as Disney PhotoPass photographers. It was incredible, but the city lights were always flickering in our minds.

Seven months later, we were back up north. Unpacking came first (gotta be realistic, right?), but a week later, we were right back in the thick of it—scoring barricade spots for a Fontaines D.C. show! To top it all off, Mishel met Alex Turner and the entire band after the show, while I, admittedly, fangirled from the sidelines. Talk about a warm welcome back to the city!

Metallica Cover Band Tix

Last week, I was surprised with tickets to see a Metallica cover band. Seeing Metallica live a few years ago was legendary, and no cover band could ever top that. However, I am a fan of good cover bands, and I can't wait to rock out to some classic Metallica songs.

Bucee's: A Sleep-Deprived Pilgrimage

Picture this: two exhausted goofballs, their Subaru Outback packed to the brim like a clown car, embarking on a singular mission: reaching the holy land of Buc-ee's. Florida to Connecticut is no easy journey, but hey, pit stops are a must, right?

First on the agenda, is a pit stop with a friend in Savannah. We bolted out of Florida at 8 pm, miraculously pulling into Georgia by 11 pm - not too shabby for two zombies behind the wheel. Next up: the fabled Buc-ee's in South Carolina. This leg of the trip took a whopping 4 hours, leaving our legs feeling numb.

By the time we stumbled into Buc-ee's at 3 am, I resembled more of a sloth than a human. Sleep deprivation, questionable food choices, and who knows how much water (or lack thereof) had me feeling like I had swallowed a handful of happy pills. Everything seemed to be in slow motion, the lights blinding, and the music sounding like a chipmunk rave. But hey, we made it! With matching Buc-ee's cups in hand, we promptly collapsed into sleep in the parking lot.

Mishel’s Picks

Bridgerton

Netflix, you must make haste and drop part 2 now! Let's be honest. I can’t be the only one who can't stop thinking about the carriage scene. And also, the cupcake scene. Or that pirate coat... I'm just a girl! We need to bring back yearning, man.

The Tortured Poets Department

I'm going to need Taylor to start paying my therapy bills. Taylor Swift released her newest record on April 19, titled “The Tortured Poets Department”. I was beyond excited for this album to be released. I tend to love music with good lyricism, so Taylor Swift is right up my alley in that department. It also helped that this was going to be the first album that I could relate to emotionally.

Swift writes about how bitter and unsatisfying her life was for a couple of years in a very poetic and deep way that makes you connect with her because we all feel heartbreak at some point, we all compare ourselves to others, we all escape from our lives at some point, and we all feel unsatisfied with life at some point. It's a slower album than the rest of her work, so if you're looking for a very poppy, dance-worthy album, this one is not it. This one makes you really think about being sad with lyrics like “our field of dreams engulfed in fire” or “your arson’s match your somber eyes.” I have been thinking about this album since it dropped, so it only made sense to mention it.

Meeting Alex Turner

It shouldn’t be surprising that I'm mentioning this again. I honestly never expected to get so close to meeting him. The closest I ever came was being in the front row at one of his shows, and even then, I couldn't function properly. This experience is something I'll never forget.

Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan, hailing from Missouri, managed to break free from her small-town origins through YouTube. As a teenager, she uploaded cover songs that eventually landed her a major label deal before she even graduated high school. With a powerful voice and a captivating sense of glamour, she has become a significant presence in our lives over the past couple of months, earning our genuine fandom. Her latest album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” blends 90’s pop with a dash of disco influence, offering a refreshing departure from what's been out there lately.

Julia Fox's “Down The Drain” Song

Fox invites us to join her in a world where reality blurs and the allure of the unknown beckons. The imagery of the drain symbolizes a descent into the unknown, a journey into the mind where anything is possible. She offers a tantalizing escape from the mundane realities of life. What draws me to this? What's so captivating about the music video? Julia Fox embodies pure chaos, and that's what makes her stand out.

Share some of your favorites with us, and let's see what June has in store.

All our love,

Your Favorite Groupies
